Endurance Riding

We think that one of the best things about owning a horse is the chance to test yourself in competition riding. Not everyone agrees of course, and sometimes the early starts and traffic jams on the way to the venue make even Nell wonder why she does it! However, the Elwell team is always ready for a challenge, and has come to specialise in long-distance endurance riding both in England and abroad.

With a love of full- and part-bred Arab horses, Endurance was the obvious sport for Elwell, depending as it does upon the stamina and courage of both horse and rider over considerable distances – just what Arab horses do best! Events can range from graded rides over ten miles at an easy pace for novices, through to international races over 160 kilometres in a single day at average speeds of over 20kph.

Endurance has something to offer even the non-riders in your family. Competitors (both two and four-legged) need refreshments, water and sometimes running repairs to tack. This needs a crew in a support vehicle to intercept and service the horse and rider at pre-arranged points, navigating by map and GPS and often driving through fields and along rough tracks to get there in time -   if you think of it as car-rallying for horses with a pit-crew, you’ll get the idea!

If this sounds like something that would interest you, click here for a link to the Endurance GB website, where you’ll find all the information you need to get started. Alternatively, chat to us – we have a wealth of experience in sourcing the best kit and planning race tactics, and (even more importantly) often have suitable horses for sale
